Wouldn’t it be nice… August 19, 2008

The birth of Dwellings by Mail came about after realizing how many of my friends and family were always asking me for design advice, but did not have the time or finances to use my full Interior Design services. Many of them are apartment dwellers and did not want to buy a gaggle of new furniture at or spend a lot of money on new items all at once.

So I thought wouldn’t it be great if you could spend a fraction of what it costs to hire me to come out to your home. If you were inclined to measure your space yourself, take a few snap shots, and spend a few minutes with me on the phone. I could get a feel for what you need and how you live. In a few weeks time you would receive a beautiful package with tons of great design advice, drawings, concept boards, fabric and paint swatches , shopping guides detailing where to purchase all of the selections and send it to you all through the mail in a few weeks time. Wouldn’t that make your life just a little bit easier?

Before & After August 17, 2008

So I’m working on a few projects for my before and after section of the domicile website. 2 of my friends who are flatmates were more than happy to have my design and organization assistance(well one was a little reluctant at first). I am really excited to see how this turns out, and yay they actually have somewhat of a budget to work with.

So far we have trimmed a lot of the fat and moved the furniture to take advantage of the light and changed the window treatments to streamlined taupe roman shades.

We also decided to tackle the main living area and replace the couch.

So a few weeks ago I blogged about deciding on a graphic designer to create a logo for me. I was a little anxious about what would come of it. Would I love what the designer came up with? Would it be a long and drawn out process with tons of complicated conversations trying to explain what it is I envisioned. Nicole at nbcreative came up with so many amazing ideas on the first try! She seemed to get me and what I wanted just after asking me a few questions and getting idea of what it is domicile does.

I am really happy with the outcome of the Logo. Next on the list is finishing the website!

She does amazing work and her prices are beyond reasonable. I love her aesthetic. She does all types of graphic and website design. I’m really excited to see what she comes up with for me.

The story about shell artist Amy Jager Ramsey in the May issue of Martha Stewart Living really pulled me in. She makes this really gorgeous art using small seashells she finds. I believe its something that has been in her family for a few generations. She didn’t have much interest in shell work as a child but took up the craft about 7 or 8 years ago. You can view her work at www.bobamy.com/shellwork.

Not only did I think her art was amazing I also thought wow this is a great gift idea if you have any crafty friends or family members. There is a how to guide on how to start making your own seashell art on marthastewart.com. It would be such a great idea to print the guide out and gift with a few starter tools and a couple packages of seashells.
